Celebrations Around the World
Beginning in the month of December, all RV Elementary students participate in learning about how holidays are celebrated in different countries around the world. These holidays are not limited to celebrations during the Christmas season but throughout the year.
In the past, some of the countries that students have learned about include Italy, Mexico, Germany, Australia, France, China, Great Britain, and Israel. In these lessons, students learn not only about how holidays are celebrated in different countries, but also the intricate details about the food, music, geography, beliefs, and culture of the people that live there.
As a final piece, each classroom will present the information they have learned about their specific country to some of the other classes throughout the school. Students are also able to fill out a “Passport” in order to “travel” to these countries just as they would if they were doing so for real.
The Elementary Celebration Around the World travel day for students will be on Wednesday, December 19th and for parents on Thursday, December 20th. We look forward to seeing the creative nature of our students on display during these “trips” around the world.
Family Engagement Series begins in January
As we talk to students about Being Bucketfillers, we’ve found how hard it is to do so ourselves! Our students – your children – are not ‘one size fits all’ … what fills one’s bucket has no impact on another. Having met with many families, we’ve found that this is not only difficult to do at school, but at home. We want our kids to feel loved, to feel valuable, to be inspired to be their very best – but sometimes… we simply don’t know how.
As a result of this, we have put together a Family Engagement Series based on the book The 5 Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell. This book helps us determine what best “fills our children’s buckets” – and helps us do so.
In partnership with River Valley Ministerial Association and The Harbor Country Rotary Club, we are providing a six-week series that you don’t want to miss!
Participants will receive six opportunities to learn in a small group setting – building relationships with other families to develop a network of support as you help build the future of our community in your homes. Participants will also receive the book The 5 Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman & Ross Campell, dinner for the family, and childcare for all ages.
It is our goal that all families participate in this exciting opportunity alongside our staff as we seek to fill our children’s’ buckets while building strong, healthy relationships in our homes and our schools.
If you know of young parents with children not-yet in school… be sure to share this opportunity, as we’d love to have them!
Be sure to RSVP today! For more information, email Mrs. Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 269 426-4204 and ask for Mrs. Clark.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
We want to remind parents that morning supervision at Chikaming begins at 7:35 am and begins at Three Oaks at 7:45 am. Please remember that for the safety of your child, they should not arrive before those times. If you have any questions, please call either school office.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. Keeping our students, faculty and staff safe is a top priority. To help ensure this safety, background screens for volunteers are a necessity. We have contracted with BIB to conduct high-quality background checks on our potential volunteers using their Secure Volunteer technology.
