With the first marking period behind us and the arrival of cooler weather, it will not be long before winter weather arrives. Parents are encouraged to access the School Messenger system to check their communication preferences in the event of “snow days”. If you are unable to access the School Messenger system, please contact your child’s school office for assistance. Notifications are also sent to the local TV and radio stations. Additional information about school closings can be found on page 3 of this newsletter.
This year, we have developed the “Alumni of Distinction” program. This program was created to recognize the accomplishments of our alumni. Detailed information on the “Alumni of Distinction” program can be found on page 2 of this newsletter. Nomination forms are available on our District website, and nominations will be accepted until January 1, 2018. The first honorees will be recognized at the Graduation Ceremony on June 1, 2018. All stakeholders are encouraged to submit a nomination form if they are aware of an alumnus who has excelled in their profession or made significant contributions to their community.
This month, we began a “second choice” menu option for students at Three Oaks Elementary. Initial reports indicate that the “second choice” option has been successful. Approximately 20 students are selecting the “second choice” each day, and staff are seeing less food being thrown out. As soon as we eliminate some of the obstacles, we are hoping to implement this program at Chikaming as well. Thank you to the Three Oaks staff for working together to make this possible.
The MHS hallways are once again open to walkers from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday when school is in session. All community members are invited to attend our Community Lunch program which is held six times during the school year. More information can be found on page 7 of this newsletter.
I would like to welcome our newest staff members to River Valley—Mary Casteel, Mark Gallagher, Aniela Hansen, Bill Schug and Rebecca Simmons.
