Harvest Party on October 18th!
We want to celebrate our harvest again this year! On Wednesday, October 18th students are invited to bring in and display all of the produce they have grown at home – could be potatoes, beans, pumpkins, squash, or maybe even the tomatoes and peppers we planted last school year! Anything home grown will be accepted.
Awards will be given for the following categories:
Additionally, the Community Garden will be having a Harvest Soup taste test on Wednesday at Chikaming and Thursday at Three Oaks.
After-school Keyboarding and Guitar Lessons
After-school music lessons are starting up again Tuesday, October 31st for keyboarding and Wednesday, November 1st for guitar at Three Oaks Elementary! Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills of keyboarding OR guitar for beginners. No experience or equipment required. Students will be provided with an instrument to take home and use to practice as well as one to keep at school for lessons.
Lessons are currently open to 4th and 5th graders only. There are a very limited number of spaces available, only ten students per session, so do not hesitate! The first to register will get the spots. Sessions are once a week for six weeks. No sessions the week of Thanksgiving and no session if there is a school closing and it will not be made up.
Halloween Fun on Tuesday, October 31st
On Tuesday, October 31st, we will have our classroom parties – Chikaming parties will take place in the morning and Three Oaks parties will take place in the afternoon. Each classroom has a head room parent that will be working with your child’s teacher to make plans for this fun event. Classroom teachers will include party time information in their weekly newsletter. Please call if you have any questions.
At 12:15 on Tuesday, October 31st, all of River Valley Elementary will join together at the Three Oaks Campus for our Annual Costume Parade led by the Marching Mustangs! The band will lead the students from the school through town. The parade will turn around at the Post office and head back to the school. Families, friends, and community are invited to line the street & check out the fun! Chikaming students will board the bus at about 12:00 noon and return back to school by 1:30 pm.
Please remember in planning your child’s costume that this event is intended to be lots of fun… violent or bloody costumes are not acceptable, nor are weapons of any kind, even if they are a part of your costume. We want this to be family-friendly and appropriate for all students, all ages – so choose a costume that is fun, without blood, gore, violence, or weapons of any kind! Students will not be allowed to wear inappropriate costumes in the parade.
If you plan to go on any field trips with your child please remember you need to be an Approved Volunteer. To become an approved volunteer please click on the following link to begin the process: https://bib.com/SECUREVOLUNTEER/RIVER-VALLEY-SCHOOL-DISTRICT/.
Background checks are completed at no cost to our potential volunteers. Volunteers who have already been approved for the 2016/17 school year do not need to have another background check completed for this school year. If you need assistance, please contact your child’s school office.
